סמינר בחלקיקים: Mass hierarchy of the Standard Model fermions as a manifestation of hidden symmetry

Abstract:
The masses of the Standard Model fermions - quarks and leptons - are stretched in their values by about 11 orders of magnitude: from the sub-eV neutrinos to the top quark with a mass of ~173 GeV.
We discuss the possibility of explaining such a hierarchy by hidden symmetries originating from the underlying high-scale theory. We demonstrate that their “soft” or spontaneous breaking allows realization of the sequential loop suppression of the SM fermion masses, starting from the largest loop index for neutrinos, which decreases when passing to heavier particles, and ending with the top quark, which acquires its mass at the tree level.
