"Doctor of Philosophy" at the "Porter School of Environmental and Earth Sciences"

 

In the framework of the "Porter School of Environmental and Earth Sciences" you can enroll to Ph.D Studies in a variety of research and academic studies at an international level that emphasizes research quality and allows students from diverse academic backgrounds to come and explore environmental issues in the physical or socio-human aspect while addressing environmental challenges, which are at the forefront of international academic research.

 

The departments at the school:

 

Department of Geophysics

Graduates from a recognized Israeli or foreign university with M.Sc. degree or "Doctor of   Medicine" (MD), a minimum cumulative grade point average of 80 and thesis grade of at least 85 with the acceptance of department supervisor can apply for studies.
The students of the department acquire knowledge and experience in the various fields of earth sciences, according to the expertise of the supervisor.
These areas include Earth geophysics, applied geophysics, applied geology, meteorology, climate, lightning and atmospheric electricity, geophysical sequence mechanics, the solar system except the sun itself, exoplanets, and measurement methods used in space physics.

 

Department of Geography and the Human Environment

Graduates (in the Department of Geography and the Human Environment or related field) from a recognized Israeli or foreign university with M.Sc. degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 80 or M.A. with a minimum cumulative grade of at least 85, and thesis grade of at least 85 with the acceptance of department supervisor can apply for studies.
The students of the department acquire knowledge and experience in the various fields of earth sciences, according to the expertise of the supervisor. These areas include quantitative research of spatial information using geographic information systems (GIS) Remote Sensing systems, Climate areas such as synoptic and regional climatology, climate change and climate-compatible planning. Hydrochemistry and hydrogeology Pollutants as well as finding engineering-chemical solutions for the removal of these pollutants from water sources, socio-human aspects of environmental problems, urban and regional planning.

 

Department of Environmental Studies

Graduates from a recognized Israeli or foreign university with M.Sc. degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 80 or M.A. with a minimum cumulative grade of at least 85, and thesis grade of at least 85 with the acceptance of department or Tel Aviv university supervisor can apply for studies. Applicants can be from any department or faculty interested in engaging in original interdisciplinary research related to environmental issues such as Earth Sciences, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Management, Ethics and Environmental Justice, Biodiversity / Zoology, Ecology, Water Resources, Environmental and Alternative Energy Engineering, Architecture, Design , Sustainable planning and development.

Safety and first aid courses

All research students are required to undergo safety training:

  1. First Aid" course - must be attended in the first year of study.

  2. Internet Online Safety" course - must be taken each year during the PhD. degree.

 

Academic Writing in English Course

The course Academic Writing in English is part of the academic duties for completing the PhD. degree.

The course has five sections, each can be taken in any order throughout the doctorate, but all five sections must be completed to meet the course requirement.
