Abstract:
The fractional quantum anomalous Hall effect (FQAHE) has so far been observed only in graphene and transition metal dichalcogenide moiré materials. I will discuss the interaction physics of twisted MoTe2, which is a topological insulator at the single-particle level and the simplest system in which the FQAHE has been observed.
I will explain why strong correlations in these systems lead to ferromagnetism instead of antiferromagnetism and to insulating states that do not break translational symmetry.
My talk will highlight the remarkable similarity between the interaction physics of twisted MoTe2 and that of two-dimensional electron gases in strong magnetic fields.
