An Analytical Approach to Strongly Coupled Open Quantum Systems
Abstract:
How do quantum systems behave when strongly coupled to their environments? Our non-perturbative Effective Hamiltonian method provides analytical insights into the physics of strong coupling while enabling feasible simulations. After introducing the key principles of this approach, I will discuss its application in quantum optics, quantum materials design and quantum information science. As time allows, I will present examples illustrating the impact of strong system-bath interactions on quantum dynamics and thermodynamics, including bath-engineering magnetic order in quantum spin chains, suppression of relaxation dynamics through decoherence, and reshaping the cooling window of quantum refrigerators.
