Abstract:

Quantum optics has driven groundbreaking advances in imaging and spectroscopy, but its focus has largely been on the optical regime. Extending these concepts into the x-ray range offers remarkable enhancements to current x-ray methods.

Recent work has demonstrated the use of time-energy correlations from spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in the x-ray domain, improving visibility and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) even with low photon numbers in high-noise environments. Exciting progress also includes the observation of single-photon interactions with beam splitters at x-ray energies, and proposals to extend quantum effects like the Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) effect for ultra-precise x-ray path metrology at sub-attosecond, sub-Angstrom scales.

In this talk, I will review the latest advancements in quantum sensing with x-rays and explore the transformative potential of quantum technologies for enhancing x-ray science and applications.
